Left Behind Media
Brendan O'Brien: I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a degree in International Business and Spanish. During my sophomore year there, I underwent a serious spinal fusion in my lower lumbar. Being incapable of walking for 3 months and unable to surf for several after that, I decided to buy a cheap camera and start shooting the waves that I was too debilitated to surf. It didn’t take long for me to develop a love for it. Nine months after my operation, my back was healed and I was able to surf, but I kept finding myself wanting to shoot video with friends and upgrade equipment.
Seeing most of my friends go on from college to start their careers and essentially their lives, I wanted to pursue something different, something I love. Hence the name, LeftBehindMedia. I originally felt like I had been forgotten in the dust of my friends ‘pursuit of money.’ After a long talk with my father, another man that put aside all critics and followed his dream of writing, he convinced me there was nothing holding me back. I’m currently waiting tables, bartending, and helping out some companies with production work, until I have the capital to take LBM off the ground. Look for a NE Surf documentary from us coming out next year. We hope to start shooting for it this fall.
